Landing traffic at the airport stopped for 2 hours
Due to the strong south wind (lodos) and heavy rain in Istanbul, aircraft were unable to land at Sabiha Gökçen Airport for about 2 hours. During this time, planes were circling in the air, and planes that entered critical fuel levels had to land at other airports.
The heavy rain and strong wind, which began to increase in the morning hours, caused disruptions in flights at both Istanbul and Sabiha Gökçen Airports. Following the meteorological warnings, about 10% of flights were canceled at Sabiha Gökçen Airport, leading to flight cancellations.
PLANES CIRCLED IN THE AIR
From 08:39 to 10:35, aircraft could not land at the airport due to adverse weather conditions. During this time, planes had to circle in the air for a long period. Aircraft from Pegasus, AJet, and other airlines, which were low on fuel, were redirected to other airports, mainly in Izmir and Ankara.
