The Ministry Warned: Pay Attention to These Emails and Messages
The Ministry of Trade has warned citizens against fraudulent activities involving international express cargo and postal shipments.
In a statement, the Ministry announced that recent investigations have revealed that shipments coming to Turkey from abroad via express cargo or postal services have been targeted by fraudsters. Fraudsters are using emails, phone calls, messages, and other communication methods to send deceptive messages such as "You have a shipment at customs," "Your shipment is stuck at customs," "Legal action will be taken against you as illegal substances have been detected in your shipment," "An additional fee is required for delivery because your cargo couldn't be delivered." These false and misleading notifications are followed by requests for citizens to transfer money via bank accounts or click on links to websites.
HOW TO VERIFY IF IT’S FAKE
With a new regulation, citizens will now be able to check whether notifications about postal and express cargo operations related to e-commerce shopping are genuine. The statement further explained: "A notification format has been established for each individual transaction. Additionally, the contact information of the authorized postal operators and express cargo companies required to send these notifications will be publicly announced on the Ministry's official website. Through the link 'https://ggm.ticaret.gov.tr/istatistikler/istatistikler,' citizens can check whether notifications have been sent from the legitimate corporate email address or phone number of the relevant cargo company or postal service, along with the content of the notification".
