Description
Alara Han is a historical caravanserai located 37 km west of Alanya on the banks of the Alara River. Built in 1231 by order of the Seljuk Sultan Alaeddin Keykubad I, it served as an important stopover for travelers on the Silk Road. This sultan's caravanserai was used as a place of rest, storage, and archive. During the Ottoman period, it served as a dervish lodge. By the mid-19th century, it was abandoned but was restored in 2001 and now functions as a cultural center and venue for "Turkish Nights." The architecture of Alara Han includes a central courtyard surrounded by a double ring of rooms. The walls, up to 2 meters thick, are made of limestone blocks. Lighting was provided by 79 lamps in the shape of lion heads. You can reach the caravanserai via the D400 highway towards Antalya and Manavgat. There is free parking on-site, or you can use a package tour service.
