Description
Alanya Tersane (shipyard in Alanya) is a unique landmark preserved from the Seljuk Empire period. Built in 1227 by order of Sultan Alaeddin Keykubad I, it became the first Seljuk shipyard on the Mediterranean Sea and an important maritime center.
The shipyard consists of five arched docks, with a facade length of 56.5 meters and a depth of 44 meters. The entrance is decorated with a commemorative inscription with the Sultan's name and rosettes. On the south side, there is an arsenal for protection against sea attacks.
The shipyard was used for the construction and repair of ships during the Seljuk and Ottoman periods, continuing to serve local fishermen even in the 20th century. Today, it houses an exhibition dedicated to the history of shipbuilding and navigation during the Seljuk period. Exhibits include ship models, navigational tools, and anchors.
Thus, the Alanya shipyard is an important cultural heritage that reflects the maritime history of the region.
