Description
Damlataş Cave is located in the Alanya district, on the western coast of the peninsula near the Alanya Castle. It was accidentally discovered in 1948 during construction work for the port. It is one of the first caves in Turkey to be opened for tourism.
The cave formed approximately 15,000 years ago due to the penetration of rainwater, which facilitated the formation of stalactites and stalagmites. The cave is 50 meters long and about 15 meters high. The temperature inside is maintained at 22-23°C year-round, making it accessible for visits at any time of the year.
Damlataş Cave is known for its high carbon dioxide content and humidity, making it a popular spot for treating asthma and other respiratory diseases. The carbon dioxide content in the cave is 10-12 times higher than in normal air, and the humidity reaches 95%. In the morning hours, the cave is accessible to asthmatics, who undergo 21-day treatment courses here.
You can reach the cave by bus number 1.
