The old hospital in Alanya is falling apart! What will be the end?
The Old Alanya State Hospital, after many years of providing healthcare services to the public, has been awaiting its fate as a ruin for years. Due to a lack of maintenance and protection, the building is in a deplorable condition, drawing reactions from local residents.
The Old Alanya State Hospital, an important part of Alanya’s healthcare history, which served the public for many years, is now abandoned. The building was vacated in 2017 with the opening of the Alanya Education and Research Hospital, and over time, due to neglect, it became unusable. Recent images show the deplorable condition of the hospital building.
A DESTROYED HISTORY
This building, which opened in 1958 as the Alanya Health Center and became the Alanya State Hospital in 1986, provided healthcare services to the local population for many years. However, after the new hospital opened, the building was left abandoned. Initially, there were plans to repurpose the building for other projects, but now it is completely in ruins.
DISTURBING IMAGES
Recent photographs clearly show the damage inside the hospital. The ceilings have collapsed, the floor materials are shattered, and the beds and other medical equipment are no longer usable. Additionally, even the signs with the word "Emergency" have been broken and left on the floor. This situation not only reflects the physical collapse of the building but also symbolizes the loss of value of this structure, which was once a symbol of its era.
UNCLEAR FUTURE PLANS
Over time, various projects were proposed for the old hospital building. There were plans to use it for an oncology center or other healthcare facilities, but none of these projects were realized. During this time, the building continued to suffer from vandalism due to insufficient security.
PUBLIC REACTION
Citizens, for whom this building holds significant historical and social value, are calling for the structure to be repurposed as soon as possible, urging local authorities to take action.
WAITING FOR A SOLUTION
The future of the Old Alanya State Hospital remains uncertain. It has been stated that to make future plans, the building must first be demolished, as its current state is unsuitable for any projects. Accordingly, a tender process will soon be initiated for the demolition of the building. Currently, calculations for the demolition costs and preparation of the necessary procedures for the tender are being carried out. The tender is expected to be completed by the end of 2025. After the demolition, issues related to zoning and ownership of the land will be resolved, and final decisions on how to utilize the area will be made.
