Training on pressure was provided to healthcare workers

As part of World Pressure Injury Prevention Day, Alanya Education and Research Hospital organized a series of events to raise awareness about pressure injuries and educate the public.

At a booth set up at the hospital's outpatient entrance, information was provided about pressure ulcers, also known as bedsores, and brochures were distributed to patients, their families, and healthcare workers. The hospital administration also supported the event by participating.

As part of the event, a training session was held for healthcare workers in the hospital’s conference hall, led by General Surgeon Op. Dr. Mehmet Kubat and Dietitian Özcan Gürbüz. Op. Dr. Mehmet Kubat discussed pressure injuries, the formation of bedsores, and treatment methods. He emphasized that through proper treatment and preventive measures, the quality of life of patients who are bedridden or sit for long periods can be improved.

Op. Dr. Mehmet Kubat explained, “Bedsores are more common in individuals with reduced mobility. These individuals can be paralyzed, bedridden patients, or those who are unconscious and receiving treatment. Bedsores can also develop in patients who need to lie in one position for long periods after surgery. They can also occur in individuals using medical devices, orthotics, or prosthetics. Bedsores, caused by excessive pressure on the skin and tissues, result in difficult-to-heal wounds. These injuries, which can appear on the arms, legs, head, or hips, are serious health concerns that carry a risk of infection.”

Dietitian Gürbüz emphasized that all hospitalized patients undergo nutrition screening, highlighting the importance of detecting malnutrition (poor nutrition) through this method and quickly addressing the issue.
