Media Literacy Talk with ALKÜ Students
The President of the Alanya Journalists Association (AGC) and the General President of the Mediterranean Journalists Federation (AGF), Gaye Coşkun, held a media literacy talk with the students of the Faculty of Engineering at Alanya Alaaddin Keykubat University (ALKÜ). Coşkun attended the media literacy class upon the invitation of Lecturer Dr. Mehmet Dikici and answered questions from the students.
The talk, which began at 10:30 AM and lasted for about an hour, started with AGC President providing the students with information about media and journalism. She shared insights into the fundamental principles of journalism and the importance of media and digital literacy. Coşkun also emphasized the importance of being knowledgeable not only in media but also in other areas. She stated, "To protect yourself from information pollution and perception management, you need to engage in comparative information management." During the discussion, Coşkun also talked about topics such as the visibility of femicides in the media and the media’s stance on personal rights. "Journalists are always on the side of truth. When we publish news, we certainly act within the legal limits and consider the rights of the individuals involved," she said. Coşkun also highlighted the importance of the Journalism Profession Law: "We need regulations that will protect journalists and distinguish our profession from citizen journalism. The solution to this is the professional law." At the end of the event, ALKÜ students presented flowers to President Coşkun, and the event concluded with a photo session.
