They couldn't get divorced because of a toilet brush: Who will get the brush?

A couple in Ankara, who decided to divorce, encountered a dispute over a toilet brush during the property division. Lawyer Taha Ekici commented on the situation, stating, “The expert is currently determining how worn out the toilet brush is and what its value might be. The court will make a decision based on this.”

According to reports, the couple applied to the court for property division. Among the items to be divided was a toilet brush. The court referred the case to an expert to assess the value of the items, including the brush, based on their condition. After evaluating the degree of wear and tear, the court will make a decision on the division.

ASSESSMENT OF WEAR AND TEAR

Providing details about the case, lawyer Taha Ekici stated, “Our client approached us for a divorce and presented a complete list of belongings. This list was meticulously prepared; alongside furniture like chairs and sofas, it included a toilet brush. The court, noting that the items were used and may have depreciated, referred the case to an expert. The expert will determine the wear and tear and remaining value of the toilet brush.”

“THIS CASE IS A FIRST”

Ekici noted that divorce, jewelry, and custody cases have been resolved, but the division of items like the toilet brush remains unresolved: “In my opinion, this case is a first. We are now awaiting the court’s decision.”

Ekici offered advice to couples planning to marry or divorce: “Even a toilet brush can affect the divorce process. Therefore, I recommend keeping a record of every item purchased and being cautious.”
