A headline that caught Alanya’s attention... The runway at GZP (Gazipaşa Airport) will not be expanded!

Alongside plans for the renovation of the terminal building and parking areas at Gazipaşa-Alanya Airport, the potential expansion of the runway was also discussed. Commenting on the matter, ALTİD President Burhan Sili stated: “Runway expansion and the construction of a second runway are not currently on the agenda. The process for obtaining permits to expand the terminal building is still incomplete.”

The runway at Gazipaşa-Alanya Airport was extended from 2,000 to 2,350 meters in October 2015. Following this, the airport began accommodating A321 and B737-900 aircraft.

However, with increased airport traffic, questions have arisen about whether the terminal, parking areas, and even the runway need further expansion.

Gazipaşa-Alanya Airport, which offers tourists a fast and comfortable travel experience to Alanya, may become insufficient for the region’s needs in the coming years. It was emphasized that efforts to expand the airport should be accelerated.

Commenting on the situation, ALTİD President Burhan Sili noted:

“In its current state, Gazipaşa Airport does not fully meet Alanya's needs.”

“OUR GOAL IS TO INCREASE CAPACITY”

“Regarding Gazipaşa Airport, there are plans to renovate and expand the terminal building and parking area, but the process for obtaining the necessary permits has not yet been completed,” Sili said.

“Runway expansion and the construction of a second runway are not currently on the agenda. Additionally, the road connection between the airport and the D400 highway needs to be improved.

As it stands, the airport does not fully meet Alanya’s needs.

Nonetheless, the ability to receive a certain number of flights and quickly transport guests to their hotels is important. In the future, we in the tourism sector would like to see Gazipaşa Airport with greater capacity,” he concluded.
