QUESTIONS ABOUT THE TIERED ELECTRICITY RATE The Electricity Distribution Services Association (ELDER) has clarified frequently asked questions about the "Tiered Electricity Rate." The answers to these questions were published on their website.
What is the "tiered" rate? According to ELDER, the tiered electricity rate was introduced based on a decision by the Energy Market Regulatory Authority (EPDK) on December 31, 2021, which came into effect on January 1, 2022. This rate applies to all consumers in the "residential single-phase low voltage" group.
How is daily average consumption calculated? The tiered electricity rate divides electricity consumption for residential single-phase low-voltage subscribers into two levels. Consumption of up to 5 kilowatt-hours per day is considered low-tier, while consumption above this amount is billed at the high-tier rate.
Which consumer groups are affected? This rate applies only to residential single-phase low-voltage subscribers. It does not apply to other types of consumers, such as multi-phase residential, commercial, agricultural irrigation, and industrial subscribers.
How is the tariff calculated? Consumption up to 5 kilowatt-hours per day is billed at the "Low Consumption Tier" rate, while consumption over 5 kilowatt-hours is billed at the "High Consumption Tier" rate. These two consumption amounts are added together, and distribution charges and mandatory taxes are included in the total bill.
Is it possible to switch to a multi-zone tariff? Residential low-voltage subscribers can switch from the single-phase tariff to a multi-zone tariff. In this case, the tiered tariff no longer applies. The multi-zone tariff charges different rates for electricity consumption at three different times of the day.
Details of the Tiered Rate Application ELDER stated that the tiered electricity rate started being applied on January 1, 2022, and that the billing process does not consider the number of days in the billing period. For example, if the billing period is 28 days, the total consumption is divided by 28, and if it is 32 days, the total is divided by 32. No adjustments to bills will be made for the period before January 1, 2022.
