A new era for taxis in Alanya

Including Alanya, a Vehicle Tracking and Camera System with a Panic Button will be installed in 6,615 taxis in Antalya, ensuring safe transportation.

The Antalya Metropolitan Municipality has taken a significant step to enhance taxi safety. Mayor Muhittin Böcek announced that a "Vehicle Tracking and Camera System with a Panic Button" would be installed free of charge in 6,615 taxis in the city. The project presentation was also attended by Mehmet Ali Alkan, the President of the Antalya Chamber of Drivers and Automobilists. Mayor Böcek stated that this project would provide safer transportation for both residents and tourists.

Böcek emphasized the critical importance of taxis for safe and comfortable travel in the city:

"Our goal is to ensure the safety of both passengers and drivers. This project is a crucial step aligned with our goal of making Antalya a reliable tourism destination," he said.

The mayor also noted that they are operating in line with the cooperation protocol signed with the Antalya Drivers’ Chamber and the circular of the Ministry of Interior. Within the scope of the project, taxis will be electronically monitored, and panic buttons will be activated in emergencies.

The President of the Antalya Chamber of Drivers and Automobilists, Mehmet Ali Alkan, emphasized that this system is being implemented for the first time in Turkey, starting with Antalya. He stated that the panic button would allow for rapid intervention by health, fire, and security teams in emergencies.

The project is expected to be completed by March 2025. So far, the system has been installed in 300 vehicles. Alkan noted that the application would create a safe environment for both drivers and passengers:

"The cameras installed in the vehicles will record inside the cars and transmit data to central servers. These recordings can be used as judicial evidence and will be stored for 30 days," he added.

With this system, taxis will be directed according to traffic flow, and drivers will receive weather updates. Mayor Böcek's business-friendly approach in implementing the project has received positive feedback from taxi drivers.
