Damaged in the storm: When will Sapadere Canyon reopen?

Alanya Mayor Osman Tarık Özçelik conducted an inspection of the Sapadere Canyon, which suffered significant damage due to the storm. Mayor Özçelik stated that with the necessary measures, they would reopen the canyon for tourism.

Alanya Mayor Osman Tarık Özçelik conducted an inspection of the Sapadere Canyon, which has been closed for repairs and safety measures after sustaining serious damage during the storm. Mayor Özçelik was accompanied by Deputy Mayor Hasan Servet Ünlü, Head of the Public Works Department Atahan Uyar, Head of the Operations and Participation Department Bilal Nurgül, and Head of the Disaster Management Department Mehmet Ali Sivri.

MAYOR ÖZÇELİK: "OUR PRIORITY IS THE SAFETY OF VISITORS"

Emphasizing that the repairs have been completed, Mayor Osman Tarık Özçelik highlighted that their primary concern is the safety of visitors: "As you know, the walking paths in Sapadere Canyon were seriously damaged due to falling rocks after the storm and heavy rains at the end of December. We have completed the repairs on the walking paths. However, we had to consider not only the paths but also the safety of the tourists and the locals who visit here. Therefore, we are reviewing and evaluating the preliminary work and projects for the upper protection barriers."

"WE WILL REOPEN THE CANYON AS SOON AS POSSIBLE"

Mayor Özçelik stated that the preliminary works done by the team are largely effective: "Together with my team, we have discussed how to reopen the canyon as soon as possible and have consulted with the local villagers on how we can collaborate. We have given the necessary instructions to reopen the canyon to the public and tourism as quickly as possible. Work will begin tomorrow."
