Big Trouble for Antalya, Adana, and Mersin! Waters in the Mediterranean Have Warmed Up

Alarm Bells Ringing for Antalya, Adana, and Mersin on the Mediterranean Coast
In Antalya, Adana, and Mersin, which are located on the Mediterranean coast and are neighboring districts, sea water temperatures are currently at alarming levels.
TEMPERATURE ABOVE NORMAL
Sea water temperature measurements in Antalya, Mersin, and Adana have shown values above normal. In Antalya, the sea water temperature measured from the west of the city was 29-30 degrees Celsius, while in the eastern district of Alanya, it reached 31 degrees Celsius. In neighboring Mersin, measurements in Yenişehir reached 30.8 degrees Celsius. The situation in Adana, which also borders the Mediterranean, is similar to Antalya and Mersin, with temperature measurements around 31 degrees Celsius near the Karataş Fisherman's Shelter.
WHAT HAPPENS IF SEA TEMPERATURE RISES?
Rising sea temperatures lead to inevitable biological changes. The first negative impact of warming sea water in the Mediterranean is the end of local marine life. Following the disappearance of local species, invasive species also begin to inhabit our seas. Invasive species accelerate the extinction of local species, which are already struggling due to increased water temperatures. With the warming of the Mediterranean waters, there has been an increase in the number of invasive species, including balloon fish from the Red Sea.
NORMAL VALUES FOR SEA WATER
In our country, the average sea water temperatures range between 20 and 30 degrees Celsius. Rivers flowing into the seas, regional climate, and geographical location affect water temperatures. Sea water temperatures increase from north to south: while temperatures in the Black Sea and Aegean Sea hover around 20 degrees Celsius, they reach up to 30 degrees Celsius in the Mediterranean. Experts indicate that the ideal sea water temperature ranges between 22 and 30 degrees Celsius.
