A challenge awaits those returning from vacation: Snow surprise on the Alanya-Konya road

The road connecting Antalya’s Akseki district to Konya’s Seydişehir district was unexpectedly hit by snow in the middle of spring. The snow, particularly effective in the Alacabel area, caught drivers unprepared, and the Road Maintenance teams immediately intervened to keep the road open for traffic.
SNOW DEPTH REACHED 3 CENTIMETERS AT ALACABEL PASS
Alacabel Pass, at an altitude of 1,825 meters, turned white with the sudden snowfall on the warm days of April. The rainfall, which began around 4:30 PM, affected a 5-kilometer stretch of road. Although the snow was short-lived, it reached a depth of up to 3 centimeters in some places.
The snowfall, which started with the drop in temperature in the region, came as a surprise to drivers, especially those returning from vacation or passing through the area. Road Maintenance teams immediately intervened with heavy machinery and salt trucks to keep the road open for traffic.
ROAD MAINTENANCE TEAMS QUICKLY SPRUNG INTO ACTION
As soon as the snow started, Akseki Road Maintenance Directorate teams began snow removal and anti-icing efforts at the Alacabel Pass. Salt was spread for road safety, and drivers were also warned to be cautious.
The teams reminded drivers that weather conditions could change suddenly, especially at higher altitudes, and recommended carrying chains or winter tires.
CHALLENGING MOMENTS FOR HOLIDAYMAKERS RETURNING
Local residents, who are not used to snow in April, and vacationers returning home, faced difficult moments on the road. Vehicles crossing from Alanya to Konya, in particular, had to slow down at the Alacabel Pass.
Authorities advised drivers to follow meteorological warnings and remain cautious, noting that weather conditions could change rapidly.
DRIVERS SHOULD BE CAUTIOUS IN THE AREA
The Akseki-Seydişehir road, especially in high-altitude areas, can pose a risk depending on weather conditions. While the Road Maintenance teams continuously monitor the road, drivers must remain vigilant.
