Tragic death in Antalya: 8-year-old child trapped under sand while playing on the beach

In Kumluca (Antalya), Ezgi Yavuz (8) and her relative Ahmet Serdar Ünver (8) were buried under a sand slide while playing on the beach. Ezgi could not be saved despite efforts to rescue her.

The incident occurred yesterday around 11:30 AM on the beach across from Deniz Obaları 5th Street in the Kum neighborhood of Kumluca. Teacher Emrah Yavuz, his wife, nurse Gülsüm Yavuz, and their daughter Ezgi went to Kumluca to spend the weekend with Emrah’s father. In the morning, Ezgi started playing in the sand with her cousin Ahmet Serdar Ünver. During this time, a sand hill collapsed, burying both children. Noticing the situation, the Yavuz family rushed to help. Together with other families nearby, they pulled the children out of the sand. After the initial intervention by the medical team, Ezgi Yavuz and Ahmet Serdar Ünver were taken to the hospital. Despite the treatment, Ezgi passed away last night. Ahmet Serdar Ünver’s treatment is ongoing.

Ezgi Yavuz's body was handed over to her father Emrah Yavuz and relatives after an autopsy at the Antalya Forensic Medicine Institute. Her funeral will take place at the Uncalı Cemetery. Emrah Yavuz, who struggled to stand, was seen walking with the support of a relative. Following the funeral vehicle, he tearfully waved and said, "Goodbye, my daughter".
