Following the 5.1 magnitude earthquake off the coast of Gazipaşa-Alanya, Geophysics Expert Prof. Dr. Övgün Ahmet Ercan explained that the largest expected earthquake in the region would be 6.2 in magnitude and that such an earthquake would not be destructive in Alanya, Antalya, Manavgat, Mersin, or Adana. He emphasized that the public should not be worried and should continue their daily lives.
Prof. Dr. Övgün Ahmet Ercan stated the following in his explanation: “We have seen two earthquakes with a magnitude of 5 in the past week off the coast of Gazipaşa-Alanya. These are small earthquakes. They are not destructive for the structures in Alanya. The largest earthquake expected in this region is 6.2. Even if such an earthquake occurs, it will not have a devastating effect in Antalya, Alanya, Manavgat, or Mersin. It will just shake. The public should not be worried”.
