Widely used in Alanya as well: mandatory requirements for electric scooters are being introduced
A convenient means of transportation in Alanya, especially used by young people, electric scooters will soon be subject to important changes, as announced by Minister Uraloğlu.
Minister of Transport and Infrastructure Abdulkadir Uraloğlu announced that significant changes would be made to the regulations for electric scooters (e-scooters), including a requirement for at least 30% of these vehicles to be locally produced. Uraloğlu stated that the new regulations would cover various aspects, including speed limits and mandatory data sharing on usage.
Mandatory Data Sharing
Uraloğlu pointed out that the 2021 regulations addressed many issues in the sector, but new changes became necessary over time. As part of the new rules, e-scooter businesses will be required to share usage data with law enforcement and local authorities through the Ministry’s transportation database. There will also be an increase in inspections to improve safety.
Restricted Areas
The new regulations will include measures to ensure that e-scooters comply with speed limits and avoid restricted areas. Uraloğlu noted that vehicles entering high-speed roads will be detected, and users will be warned. E-scooters entering restricted areas will have their speed automatically reduced, and companies failing to comply will face a fine of 6,923 Turkish liras.
Providing Map Services
Uraloğlu stated that companies will be required to address complaints submitted through call centers quickly, provide information on safety obligations, and display real-time charge levels and estimated distances. Businesses will also be required to provide map services for users.
Local Production Requirement
Under the new regulations, e-scooters in operation must have a minimum of 20% charge. Additionally, incidents such as accidents and falls must be recorded by operators and submitted monthly to the Ministry’s database. To promote local production, at least 30% of all e-scooters must be produced in Turkey. Companies that fail to comply with this rule will have their operations halted.
These changes are aimed at raising standards in the sector and improving user safety.
