Discovered in Alanya and Side! Shedding light on the past

With the support of the Ministry of Culture and Tourism, excavations in the ancient cities of Side, Syedra, Sillyon, Olympos, and Phaselis are shedding light on the past. As a result of the excavations, 886 new artifacts were uncovered.

In 2024, Antalya once again showcased its historical wealth through archaeological excavations. The 886 new artifacts uncovered in these excavations have shed light on Antalya's past and enriched the collections of museums.

Excavations were conducted with the support of the Ministry of Culture and Tourism in ancient cities such as Side, Syedra, Sillyon, Olympos, and Phaselis. Notably, the altar dedicated to Apollo and small votive statues found in Phaselis provide new insights into the history of the Mediterranean region.

EXHIBITS ON DISPLAY

A large portion of the discovered artifacts has begun to be exhibited at the Side Museum. Additionally, these valuable pieces are also displayed at the Antalya Archaeological Museum, Alanya Museum, and Demre Museum. Among the most notable items are the millefiori glass decoration panels from Myra-Andriake, which are among the museum's standout pieces.

SHOWING DETERMINATION

Antalya stands out not only for its historical wealth but also for its commitment to sustainable tourism. In this context, restoration, maintenance, and repair work are also of great importance. The budget of 500 million Turkish lira allocated for archaeological works in Antalya in 2024 demonstrates this determination.

Every year, Antalya hosts millions of tourists thanks to its historical and natural beauties. When these riches are combined with sustainable tourism practices, the future of Antalya will be even brighter.
