Mass Poisoning in Konya: 400 Hospitalized Amid Toxic Scare

A mass food poisoning outbreak in the Sarayönü district of Konya has caused widespread concern. Approximately 400 people were admitted to hospitals with complaints of nausea, vomiting, and diarrhea, prompting emergency alerts from health authorities. Due to the increasing number of cases, hospitals became overcrowded, and medical staff had their leaves canceled. Pharmacies reported that medications for diarrhea and related symptoms were nearly sold out.

In an official statement from the Sarayönü District Governorate, it was announced that investigations are underway regarding the sudden onset of symptoms such as diarrhea, fever, vomiting, and stomach discomfort. Authorities confirmed that a detailed investigation is ongoing to determine the cause of the incidents.

No Link Found to Drinking Water

As speculation spread on social media claiming the poisoning was caused by contamination of drinking water with sewage, the Konya Metropolitan Municipality’s water authority, KOSKİ, stated that no irregularities were found in water samples. After thorough analysis, officials publicly declared that the cases were not related to the drinking water supply.

Similar Incident Recalled in Kocaeli

The incident in Konya brings to mind a recent mass food poisoning in the Körfez district of Kocaeli. During the holiday period, 648 people sought hospital treatment after consuming chicken döner. Investigations revealed that the samples did not meet health standards. The responsible business was shut down, and legal action was initiated.

Ministry of Health and Local Authorities Take Action

The Turkish Ministry of Health, in coordination with local authorities, continues efforts to identify the source of the poisoning in Konya. Citizens are advised to pay close attention to the hygiene and safety of the food and water they consume and to seek immediate medical help if they experience any suspicious symptoms.
