Earthquake drill in Alanya

An earthquake drill was conducted in Alanya, where simulated casualties were rescued from debris.

The drill and search-and-rescue training took place in the Çıplaklı neighborhood, where a scenario was created assuming an earthquake of magnitude 5.5. The training involved the Alanya Municipality Disaster Management Directorate, the Metropolitan Municipality Fire Department, search-and-rescue units AFAD, AKUT, UMKE, the Red Crescent, the Turkish Radio (Radio Amateur) Society (TRAC) Antalya Branch Emergency Disaster Communication Unit.

CASUALTY REPORT RECEIVED

During the work to identify damaged buildings, coordinated by AFAD, a report was received about citizens being trapped under the rubble of a collapsed building. Rescue teams were directed to the area, and strict security measures were taken. Injuries were confirmed among the debris in the damaged building, and drilling and breaking of concrete blocks were carried out. After extensive efforts, the simulated injured were pulled out from under the rubble and handed over to medical teams. The injured were treated at a field hospital set up in the area.

COMMUNICATION THROUGH RADIO

Assuming that landline and GSM telephone communication were disrupted due to the earthquake, TRAC Antalya Branch radio operators, led by Metin Karakuzu, stepped in and provided communication support to the working teams. Information collected via mobile radio stations was transmitted to the coordination center, and some urgent needs were delivered to the area.

FOOD AND BEVERAGE SERVICE

Meanwhile, the Red Crescent’s mobile food and beverage vehicle served the needs of the search-and-rescue and emergency disaster communication teams, as well as the public. Soup, transported from the Alanya Municipality's soup kitchen, was also served to those in need.
