In Alanya’s Uğurlu and Bıçakçı neighborhoods, 125 mulberry saplings were distributed to 7 farmers.
Antalya Metropolitan Municipality continues its efforts to revive silkworm farming in Alanya. In the Silk House, established in the Sapadere neighborhood, the municipality is not only revitalizing silkworm farming but also conducting informative training sessions for local producers. Now, efforts have begun to expand silkworm farming across Alanya.
As part of this initiative, the Agricultural Services Department of the Antalya Metropolitan Municipality identified neighborhoods where mulberry trees grow easily and have potential for silkworm farming. The municipality then started distributing mulberry saplings. In the first phase of the project, saplings were distributed to farmers in the Uğurlu and Bıçakçı neighborhoods, located in the Dim Valley. The Metropolitan teams handed over 125 mulberry saplings to Uğurlu Neighborhood Head Ahmet Sarı and Bıçakçı Neighborhood Head Murat Çay, to be given to a total of 7 farmers.
The neighborhood heads stated: "We are working in cooperation with our metropolitan municipality to initiate and develop silkworm farming in our neighborhoods. In this regard, we requested sapling support for our farmers who are willing to engage in this work, and the municipality provided it. We want to increase this number and expand silkworm farming in our region in the coming years. We thank Mayor Muhittin Böcek and his team for their support.”
