In Alanya, prices have doubled in a year: Our mood is ruined!

With only a few days left until Ramadan Bayram, holiday shopping has already begun. Symbolic treats such as candies and Turkish delight have taken their place on the shelves with a 30% price increase. The President of the Alanya Grocers and Kiosk Owners' Chamber, Hilmi Özdemir, stated that the price hikes are hitting consumers hard and urged citizens to shop from local businesses.
Ramadan Bayram is fast approaching, and preparations are in full swing. Sweets, candies, and various types of Turkish delight are waiting for buyers on the shelves. However, according to Alanya Posta Medya's research, prices are quite steep this year.
Compared to last year, prices have increased by 30-40%, causing both a decrease in sales and a reduction in the quantity of purchased sweets. Özdemir noted that this price increase has significantly impacted household budgets:
"The prices of holiday candies and Turkish delight have increased by 30-40% this year. Currently, the price per kilogram of sugar ranges from 200 to 300 TL, while Turkish delight is sold for 100 to 150 TL," he said.
Prices in 2024 and 2025
A significant increase in the prices of holiday sweets has been observed in Alanya compared to last year.
In 2024, holiday sweets cost between 100 TL and 150 TL, depending on the brand, while in 2025, prices have risen to 200-300 TL.
Chocolate prices, which ranged from 110 TL to 650 TL last year, have now increased to 200 TL to 950 TL.
Turkish delight has also become more expensive, rising by 30-60 TL, with prices now ranging from 100 TL to 250 TL.
Additionally, Turkish coffee, an essential part of the holiday tradition, is now being sold for 600 TL per kilogram.
"SHOP FROM LOCAL BUSINESSES"
In addition to price increases, Özdemir also emphasized the importance of choosing healthy and high-quality products during the holiday season, calling on citizens to support local businesses: "I recommend that our citizens choose trustworthy local markets when purchasing holiday candies and Turkish delight."
"Support local vendors. Buying fresh, newly produced, and high-quality products is essential both for our health and for truly enjoying the holiday. I would like to take this opportunity to wish all Muslims and our people a blessed Ramadan Bayram in advance," he said.
