Breaking News! A review has started on tenders in Antalya

The Ministry of Culture and Tourism, along with the Antalya Directorate of Surveying and Monuments, has launched a detailed review of 15 tenders. The total cost of these tenders exceeds 684 million Turkish Liras, and it is claimed that the bids were unusually low and the expected discount rates were not achieved.
Among the projects under review are significant restoration works related to Antalya’s historical and cultural heritage. These include the restoration of the ancient cities of Patara, Side, Olympos, and Perge, the renewal of the St. Nicholas Monument Museum, and the repair of the Alanya Castle walls.
WHY DID THE REVIEW START?
Ministry officials noted that the discount rates on tenders usually range from 20-30%, but in some projects, they remained as low as 1-3%. This raised concerns about the lack of a competitive environment and the accuracy of cost calculations. The General Directorate of Cultural Heritage and Museums has moved to investigate these claims in detail.
AN EXPERT COMMISSION HAS BEEN ASSIGNED
To carry out a detailed review of the tenders, a 16-member commission consisting of experts in contracting and tender legislation has been formed. The commission will examine the tender documents individually and compare them with the current status of the projects. Additionally, the restoration work conducted on-site will also be inspected.
ARE THERE ANY DEFICIENCIES IN THE TENDER DOCUMENTS?
In a report prepared by Deputy General Director Bora Dündar, it was stated that there were various deficiencies in the tender documents. It was revealed that some tenders did not provide enough technical details, leaving critical issues like materials and design unclear.
WHAT WILL HAPPEN IF IRREGULARITIES ARE FOUND?
If any irregularities are found during the review, legal actions will be initiated against those responsible. Additionally, new regulations are planned to ensure more transparency and fairness in the tender processes.
