The Presidents of City Councils in Turkey held a meeting in Alanya

The Executive Committee Meeting of the Turkey City Councils Platform was held in Alanya with the cooperation of Alanya Municipality and Alanya City Council. The aim of the meeting is to increase the contribution of city councils to participatory democracy and to develop joint solutions for the sustainable development of cities. Many city council presidents from different regions of Turkey participated in the event.

The meeting, chaired by Mustafa Coşar, the President of the 32nd term of the Turkey City Councils Platform and the President of the Çankaya City Council, was attended by Nurhan Özcan, the President of Alanya City Council, Haydar Uyar, the Secretary-General of Alanya City Council, and the city council presidents from Izmir, Manisa, Çankaya, Kuşadası, Çorlu, Konak, and Esenyurt.

During the meeting, common problems faced by city councils and proposed solutions were discussed. Examples of good practices were shared, and steps to strengthen collaboration networks between city councils were evaluated. A decision was made to contact municipalities in cities where city councils have not been established yet, to encourage their formation. The Turkey City Councils Platform is actively working to create participatory and democratic cities.

Nurhan Özcan, the President of Alanya City Council, expressed his satisfaction with hosting the meeting and said, “City councils are among the most important democratic mechanisms that enable public participation in governance. As the Executive Committee of the Turkey City Councils Platform, we will continue our efforts to make our cities more livable within the framework of collective wisdom.”

The meeting held in Alanya provided an important platform to strengthen participatory governance and create joint solutions for the future of cities. During the sessions, steps that need to be taken to make city councils more effective were further discussed.
