In Alanya, the danger of invasive fish

Alanya's free diver Samet Alabacak, famous in Turkey for hunting invasive species like the lionfish, stated that the Mediterranean coast is at risk and that conscious hunting is necessary to protect the marine ecosystem in Alanya.

Last week, the topic of invasive species resurfaced after a school of striped catfish, known for their venomous spines and native to the Red Sea, was spotted in the waters of Alanya. This school was recorded by Professor Mehmet Gökoğlu from the Faculty of Fisheries at Akdeniz University during a dive. Alabacak provided information about the damage invasive species are causing to the marine ecosystem in Alanya on a Mediterranean-wide scale and emphasized the need for safe and conscious hunting.
