Don't get sick in Alanya! Doctors are quitting
Family doctors in Alanya will go on strike from December 2 to 6 in protest against the harsh conditions of the new Family Medicine Payment and Contract Regulation and ongoing issues within the healthcare system. Doctors stated that they made this decision to protect their professional honor and demand better working conditions.
Family doctors in Alanya have decided to go on strike for 5 days, from December 2 to 6, in response to the difficult conditions outlined in the new Family Medicine Payment and Contract Regulation. Mehmet Ulusan, President of the Doctors’ Union, explained the situation by stating, "In the first week of December, we will be on strike for 5 days."
"We are on strike for the honor of the medical profession"
Ulusan explained the strike decision with the following words: "Due to the increasing workload, difficulties with the appointment system, violence incidents, low wages, and the tarnishing of the medical profession's reputation, we will go on strike from December 2 to 6. Despite 20 years since the implementation of the Family Medicine Law, the problems in the system have not been solved. Doctors cannot remain silent in the face of this situation."
Problems in the system
Ulusan listed the main issues within the system as follows:
-Problems with referral processes
-High workload of integrated family doctors
-Interference with appointment times and prescription regulations
-Inadequate physical working conditions
-Lack of security and personnel shortages in Family Health Centers (ASM)
-Problems with doctors' vacation time
-The risk of arbitrary termination of contracts.
"Interference with medicine is interference with public health"
Ulusan expressed frustration that despite previous protests, their demands had not been met: "Do not argue with doctors or the medical profession. Let's build an ideal healthcare system together to provide quality healthcare services to the public. Interference with medicine is interference with public health."
