Terrifying moments: two planes were struck by lightning
Last night in Istanbul, heavy rainfall caused tense moments at Istanbul Airport and Sabiha Gökçen Airport. Two planes, operated by Turkish Airlines and Pegasus Airlines, departing from Istanbul, were struck by lightning. Both planes were forced to return to the airport for safety reasons.
A Turkish Airlines flight en route from Istanbul to Abu Dhabi was struck by lightning shortly after takeoff from Istanbul Airport. The pilot decided to return as a precaution and reported no safety issues during the flight.
PEGASUS PLANE RETURNED TO SABİHA GÖKÇEN
An Airbus A321neo aircraft registered as TC-RFH, operating Pegasus Airlines' Sabiha Gökçen-Çukurova flight, was also struck by lightning shortly after takeoff. The pilots decided to return to Sabiha Gökçen Airport for a technical inspection.
PASSENGERS TRANSFERRED TO A NEW PLANE
Following the incident, passengers were deplaned, and a replacement aircraft was assigned. The rescheduled flight is expected to depart at 11:40 PM on an A321neo aircraft registered as TC-RDY.
