Journalists working in Alanya gathered at Olive Garden Restaurant

On January 10, in honor of Working Journalists Day, Alanya Journalists Association (AGC) President Gaye Coşkun laid a wreath at the Atatürk Monument and later joined protocol members and colleagues for breakfast at Olive Garden Restaurant.

AGC President Gaye Coşkun, board members, and journalists laid a wreath at the Atatürk Monument as part of the Working Journalists Day celebrations. Following a minute of silence and the Turkish National Anthem, the ceremony concluded, and AGC members continued the celebration with breakfast at Olive Garden Restaurant.

Attendees included: Alanya District Governor Dr. Fatih Ürkmezer, Mayor Osman Tarık Özçelik, ALKÜ Vice Rector Prof. Dr. Oğuz Karahan, Deputy Provincial Gendarmerie Commander Lt. Col. Engin Burak Mindivanlı, Coast Guard Station Commander Maj. Erdinç Karadeniz, Police Chief Murat Kenan Patat, Acting Alanya Gendarmerie Commander Lt. Sezer Can, National Education Director Yusuf Yılmaz, Health Director Dr. Nadir Aldemir, ALTSO Chairman Eray Erdem, AK Party District Chairman Mehmet Şarani Tavlı, CHP District Chairman Bülent Kandemir, MHP District Chairman Mustafa Sünbül, İYİ Party District Chairman Hilmi Er, invited guests, and AGC members.

In her speech, Gaye Coşkun stated: "January 10, 1961, marks an important milestone as the day Law No. 212 came into effect, improving journalists' working conditions and securing their social rights and guarantees. However, over 64 years, we have lost many gains, and today, instead of celebrating, we focus on solidarity. Many media organizations face severe financial challenges, leaving numerous colleagues unemployed or working in other fields. Unfortunately, this has become a great injustice for journalists. Let today be a hope for resolving these issues."

Mayor Osman Tarık Özçelik emphasized: "The press is an essential institution that informs the public with accurate and impartial news. Esteemed journalists, you fulfill this duty with great dedication. Stay true to your profession, and you will look back with pride, knowing you have carried out this sacred mission honorably."

Governor Ürkmezer added: "We have gathered for similar events many times, but January 10 always holds special significance. Journalists play a crucial role in ensuring the public's right to accurate information and building bridges between authorities and citizens. I wish all journalists continued success and thank them for their contribution to disseminating truthful information."

Following the speeches, AGC President Coşkun presented a commemorative plaque to Governor Ürkmezer for the "Young Pens" and "Media Academy" projects implemented in collaboration with the governor's office. A plaque of appreciation was also presented to Olive Garden Restaurant operator Mustafa Afyoncu for his support in organizing the event.

The event concluded with a group photo.
