Women's employment in Alanya

On March 8, International Women's Day, data on women's employment in Alanya highlight their role in the workforce and gender distribution. Looking at the employment rates of women in sectors such as education, trade, healthcare, agriculture, and security, male dominance is evident, except in the Ministry of Education, universities, and hospitals.

At Alanya Municipality, out of a total of 2,630 employees, 478 are women. This means that women make up approximately 18% of the total workforce. Although female employment in the municipality has increased, the number of male employees remains significantly higher.

WOMEN IN BUSINESS EXCEED 25%

Out of 5,800 registered members of the Alanya Chamber of Tradesmen and Artisans, 1,492 are women. Although female entrepreneurs are taking a more active role in business, men still constitute the majority of the total membership. However, this data shows that women are making significant progress in strengthening their economic independence.

WOMEN DOMINATE THE HEALTHCARE SECTOR

In the healthcare sector, women are in the majority by a small margin. Out of 2,245 hospital employees, 1,326 are women and 919 are men. This indicates that women are more involved in the healthcare sector. The fact that professions such as nursing and patient care are predominantly chosen by women is considered one of the main reasons for this difference.

WOMEN LEAD IN EDUCATION

In official institutions under the Alanya National Education Directorate, there are a total of 4,048 educators, of whom 2,195 are women and 1,853 are men. In private schools and institutions, there are 1,190 female and 1,064 male educators. The fact that the number of female educators exceeds that of men indicates that the education sector is a more accessible and widespread field for women. The increase in female teachers also has a positive impact on future generations.

WOMEN'S EMPLOYMENT IN UNIVERSITIES

At Alanya Alaaddin Keykubat University (ALKÜ), there are 299 women in the academic staff, 122 in administrative positions, and 57 in worker positions. Among the academic staff, 78 women are Dr. lecturers, 43 are Associate Professors, 24 are Professors, 72 are lecturers, and 82 are research assistants. Additionally, among 276 civil servants at ALKÜ, 122 are women and 154 are men, meaning women make up approximately 44% of the civil service staff. In the worker category, out of 141 employees, 57 are women and 84 are men.

At Alanya University, a total of 130 staff members work, including 80 women and 58 men.

ALMOST NON-EXISTENT

At the Alanya Gendarmerie Command, out of 459 personnel, only 7 are women. At the Alanya Police Department, out of 623 personnel, 60 are women. The representation of women in security forces remains very low. It is evident that encouraging steps need to be taken to increase women's participation in the security sector.

WOMEN FARMERS ARE AN IMPORTANT PART OF PRODUCTION

Out of a total of 27,000 farmers registered with the Alanya Chamber of Agriculture, 2,500 are women. Alanya Chamber of Agriculture President Tahir Göktepe emphasized the importance of women in agriculture, stating, "We have many female farmers registered under their husband's or father's names. Women are indispensable in production." This highlights the need to increase the number of female farmers and provide more support for women in agricultural production.

CONCLUSION AND EVALUATION

Employment data in Alanya show that while women are strongly represented in certain sectors, men still dominate the job market overall. It is evident that efforts are needed to increase the percentage of women in the municipality, trade, security, and agriculture sectors. On the occasion of International Women's Day on March 8, the importance of implementing equal opportunity policies to ensure greater female participation in the workforce is once again emphasized.
