Flooding, tornado, storm! Is worse to come in Alanya? Here are the details

In Alanya, the increase in natural disasters such as flooding, storms, and tornadoes is being linked to climate change. Experts warn that such disasters may become more frequent in the future and emphasize the need for urgent measures to make Alanya more resilient to these risks.

Attention is being drawn to the rising risks of natural disasters in Alanya associated with climate change, with particular concern over the increasing frequency and severity of storms, tornadoes, and floods. Mehmet Dahaoğlu, Vice President of the Alanya Tourist Operators Association (ALTİD), stresses the need for the region to be prepared for disasters such as fires and floods.

Statements based on reports from the European Travel Commission indicate that the Mediterranean climate is vulnerable to such disasters. Dahaoğlu asserts that Alanya's infrastructure needs urgent strengthening, with a particular focus on improving drainage systems.

He also emphasizes the necessity of modernizing firefighting equipment, insuring businesses in the tourism sector, and establishing financial support mechanisms for crises. Without these measures, it is stated that tourism and residential areas in the region will face serious risks.

As Dahaoğlu highlights, being prepared for natural disasters plays a critical role in ensuring Alanya's long-term sustainability both economically and environmentally. With the rapid escalation of climate change effects, it is emphasized that urgent actions are needed from both the local residents and authorities.
