Erdoğan indicated: Will the runway at Alanya GZP be extended?

After the plane crash in South Korea, President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan’s statements about runway lengths have brought the safety of the current runway at Alanya-Gazipaşa Airport back into focus.

In 2020, during a meeting with pilots at Tokat Airport, Erdoğan stated that runway lengths should exceed 3,000 meters. This view has set an example for many airports in Turkey, while the capacity of Alanya-Gazipaşa Airport, with its 2,350-meter runway, has become a topic of debate.

SAFETY CONCERNS AT ALANYA-GAZIPAŞA AIRPORT

Alanya-Gazipaşa Airport is unique for being the first airport in Turkey with a road running underneath it. However, especially during the winter months, adverse weather conditions raise safety concerns. This has reopened discussions about the necessity of extending the runway.

IS RUNWAY EXTENSION PLANNED?

The issue of whether the runway will be extended has not yet been clarified by officials. However, given the airport's strategic location and increasing passenger demand, steps in this direction are expected in the future.

The future infrastructure plans for Alanya-Gazipaşa Airport are of great importance for safe and comfortable travel. We will closely follow developments.
