A new era has begun in the land registry: transactions are being canceled

The General Directorate of Land Registry and Cadastre, affiliated with the Ministry of Environment, Urbanization, and Climate Change, has implemented a new system to enhance transaction security and speed up processes. Starting from January 1, 2025, transactions at land registry offices will only be possible with chip-enabled ID cards. Traditional ID cards will no longer be valid as of this date.

Chip-enabled ID cards, introduced across Turkey in 2016, will now also be used for land registry transactions, just as they are in banking, healthcare, and tax services. This system aims to make e-signature and identity verification processes more secure.

MANDATORY FOR REAL ESTATE TRANSACTIONS

With the new regulation, chip-enabled ID cards have become mandatory for all land registry transactions, including property sales, inheritance-based deeds, and heir determination. This innovation eliminates the risk of fraud and enables faster transaction completion.

TRANSACTIONS WITH OLD ID CARDS WILL BE IMPOSSIBLE

Citizens who try to use traditional ID cards for transactions at land registry offices after January 1, 2025, will not be able to access this service. To avoid inconvenience, it is advised to obtain chip-enabled ID cards as soon as possible.

ADVANTAGES OF CHIP-ENABLED ID CARDS

Chip-enabled ID cards offer a high level of security and play a significant role in digital services such as electronic signatures and identity verification. This new system makes land registry transactions more secure and faster, reducing the burden on citizens.
