The electricity bill crisis in Alanya is growing

The Crisis of High Electricity Bills in Antalya and Alanya Continues
A new decision by the Energy Market Regulatory Authority (EPDK) has made it mandatory for households consuming more than 5,000 kWh annually and commercial subscribers using over 15,000 kWh to switch to the free market tariff. This change has further burdened residents of hot climate regions like Alanya.
Climate and Consumption Balance
In Alanya, residents are forced to use air conditioning for most of the year. This significantly increases electricity consumption, leading to higher bills. With rising rent prices and the cost of living already weighing on them, Alanya’s residents now face additional financial strain due to these increases.
Solution Proposal from CHP
CHP Antalya MP Aykut Kaya highlighted the need to revise consumption limits for mild climate regions. He stated: "Antalya, due to its tourism density and climatic conditions, has much higher electricity consumption than other provinces. Therefore, a special tariff should be applied for Antalya to prevent residents from being unfairly burdened."
Infrastructure Issues and Calls for Solutions
Kaya also pointed out the inadequacy of Antalya’s energy infrastructure. "The increasing population and high tourism activity are causing capacity issues in the energy network. Power outages and voltage fluctuations are negatively impacting both residents and businesses. The Ministry of Energy must increase the budget allocated to Antalya, double infrastructure investments, and prioritize the region for urgent upgrades."
Citizens Expect Solutions
Residents of Antalya are urgently seeking a resolution to the rising electricity bills. They are calling for a special tariff that considers the region’s climatic conditions and for strengthening the energy infrastructure to ensure a stable electricity supply.
