Warning for drivers in Antalya and Alanya: Don’t wash your car in vain!

Meteorologists warn about a new weather event that will impact western regions of Turkey in the coming days.

In addition to a heatwave from Africa, a dense cloud of desert dust is expected to arrive from Libya. This phenomenon may significantly reduce air quality and visibility, especially in coastal areas such as Antalya and Alanya.

According to meteorological sources, desert dust will likely enter Turkey from the west on Wednesday. After affecting the Marmara and Aegean regions, it is expected to spread to the Mediterranean region, altering weather conditions in Antalya, Alanya, and surrounding areas. Experts warn that the dust transfer could cause respiratory problems, particularly for vulnerable groups.

IMPORTANT WARNING FOR CAR OWNERS

Due to the desert dust, vehicles in Antalya and Alanya will be covered in a fine layer of dirt. Experts advise drivers to avoid washing their cars prematurely, as they will get dirty again quickly. Instead, it’s best to wait until the dust event has passed.

IMPACT ON AIR QUALITY AND VISIBILITY

A high concentration of dust in the atmosphere will negatively affect air quality and pose a risk to people with respiratory conditions. Those with asthma and allergies are advised to wear masks outdoors and limit their time outside if possible. Additionally, reduced visibility due to dust clouds may increase the risk of traffic accidents, so drivers should exercise caution.

HOW LONG WILL THE DESERT DUST LAST?

According to forecasts, desert dust will remain in the atmosphere for several days, starting mid-week. The highest intensity is expected on Thursday and Friday. However, conditions may vary depending on wind direction and speed.

RECOMMENDATIONS FOR RESIDENTS

Avoid spending extended periods outdoors if possible.

People with respiratory issues should wear masks outside.

Delay washing your car until the dust event is over.

Keep windows closed at home and work to maintain indoor air quality.
