At least 299 workers have lost their lives

According to the data from the Occupational Health and Safety Council (İSİG), at least 121 workers lost their lives in February.

According to İSİG’s February 2025 report, at least 121 workers died in February. The number of workplace fatalities in the first two months of the year has reached 299. By sector, 55 workers died in industry, 34 in services, 19 in construction, and 13 in agriculture.

İSİG released its report on worker deaths for February. The report states: "74% of the data was obtained from national media, while 26% was gathered from workers' colleagues, families, occupational safety experts, workplace doctors, unions, and local media. Based on the information we were able to confirm, at least 121 workers lost their lives in February. Thus, the total number of workplace deaths in the first two months of 2025 reached 299: 178 deaths in January and 121 in February."

55 Deaths in Industry

The report, under the title "Struggle Against Workplace Deaths, Low Wages, Layoffs, and Child Labor," includes the following statements:

Over the past ten years, an average of 145 to 165 workers have died each month based on the data we have gathered. However, the lower number of deaths in February is not a result of improved occupational health and safety measures. The main reason is the harsh winter conditions, which reduced activity in construction and agriculture, and consequently, workplace fatalities. The second reason, as we previously noted in our comparisons with SGK statistics, is the lack of access to information about workers who died in factories and industrial settings.

In February, the sectors with the highest number of deaths were transportation, construction, trade, metalwork, and agriculture. Sector-wise, 55 workers died in industry, 34 in services, 19 in construction, and 13 in agriculture. Additionally, 4 child workers lost their lives in February.
