Frightening yellow layer in the sea of Alanya: What do experts say?

A yellow, mucilage-like layer was observed on the sea surface off Soğuk Kapı Beach near the Alanya Shipyard.

The yellowish and dense layer that formed on the sea surface near Soğuk Kapı Beach in Alanya drew attention. The film covered a large area close to the shore. Experts stated that this formation is not caused by human pollution but is a natural phenomenon related to an increase in plankton and a seasonal occurrence.

While some locals and beachgoers expressed concern over the sight, authorities are reported to be monitoring the situation. Municipal teams are expected to carry out cleaning operations on the sea surface. The mucilage-like layer is considered a result of natural plankton blooms, which occasionally occur on different shores of Turkey.
