Vegetable Prices Soar in Alanya
2 November / Gazete Alanya
Frost events in Alanya's high-altitude areas have dealt a severe blow to local vegetable production, especially affecting staple foods like cucumbers and tomatoes. Due to the production decline, prices have soared, with cucumbers reaching 40 TL per kilogram and tomatoes 30 TL in wholesale markets and bazaars.
The shortage was exacerbated by producers who, after failing to cover costs last year, were reluctant to plant this season. Alanya Wholesale Market Association President Adem Kaya explained that the frosts and the reluctance of producers to plant led to this situation, stating, "The decline in production has caused prices to rise. A solution is needed to prevent our citizens from suffering due to this".
