Millions of men have been victims: the alimony system is being completely changed

In Turkey, the alimony system that has caused millions of divorced men to become victims is being completely restructured: women who were married for only one day and then divorced will no longer be entitled to alimony for life.
The divorce and alimony system, which has caused serious problems in the country, is preparing for major changes. There will no longer be long legal battles over property division, compensation, custody, and situations where men had to pay alimony for life despite being married for only one day. The new draft law from the Ministry of Justice aims to address the grievances of both women and men.
THE ALIMONY SYSTEM IS BEING COMPLETELY RESTRUCTURED
According to a report on TGRT Haber, family law is being restructured from the ground up. New regulations are on the way as part of the judicial reform strategy. The biggest change will be in the alimony system.
It has been stated that the indefinite alimony system will be abolished, and lifetime payments will come to an end. The situation where men had to pay alimony for many years after being married for just one day will be history.
THE DURATION OF ALIMONY MAY BE EXTENDED BASED ON CRITERIA
Under the new system, alimony will be determined based on the duration of the marriage, the economic status of the spouses, and the degree of fault of each party. However, women will not be disadvantaged. If the woman is unable to work due to age or health conditions, there will be no time limit for alimony.
DIVORCE CASES WILL BE SHORTER
Another aspect of the new judicial reform concerns the length of divorce cases. With the new regulation, divorce decisions will be made quickly. Separate cases will be opened for property division, compensation, alimony, and custody, and long, contested divorce cases will come to an end.
AK Party's legal advisors also examined examples from Europe, noting that similar practices are already applied in European Union countries.
